S.O.A.R. (Seeking Out Alternative Responses)

Purpose – Students identified as needing support beyond what the school offered in developing conflict resolution / problem-solving skills. The ” I CAN PROBLEM SOLVE ” Program was used during the past school year and was deemed successful by administration and data collected. Goal for the upcoming school year is to increase the number of students served.

WANTED: Individual(s) interested in a rewarding volunteer position to assist middle school students in acquiring the skills to appropriately problem solve and resolve conflict. Individuals(s) must possess patience, initiative and a willingness to learn.
Individual(s) should also be an independent worker and feel comfortable giving and receiving suggestions. Individual must be at least a senior in undergraduate
school to apply for this opportunity. Candidate should have experience working with middle school students. Areas of study of applicants should be psychology,
social work or education.

Job Description

Receives training to implement “I CAN PROBLEM SOLVE”
Conducts groups with students identified as needing additional support beyond what the school offers
Ratio staff to students will be one staff to 4/5 students
Sessions will occur once a week, hourly sessions
Conducts a maximum of three groups a day
Conducts individual sessions as needed
Series of sessions will be conducted during the school year
Groups will be gender homogeneous
