City Year Service Day at West Philly schools

VOLUNTEER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT OUR SCHOOLS ON SATURDAY JUNE 8

“Cyzygy” – the ancient Greek term for the alignment of celestial forces is the theme of the national City Year Day of Service in West Philadelphia on Saturday June 8. Over 3,000 volunteers from across the nation converge at West Philadelphia public school sites to landscape, lay sod, paint murals, and build playgrounds as the capstone experience of their full year of service to the nation.

Local volunteers are invited – and needed – to work alongside the City Year volunteers that day from 8:30am to 4pm. June 8 will be a day for working hard, sweating and getting dirty, and for making new friends from community as well as from City Year.

Volunteers will be serving at the following school sites: Penn Assisted School (43rd and Spruce); McMichael Elementary (36th and Fairmount); Powel Elementary (36th and Powelton); Drew Elementary and University City High (Filbert St. from 36th to 37th); Lea Elementary and West Philadelphia High (Locust St. from 47th to 48th).
