VolunteerResource.org: Revamped, Retooled and Reloaded
VolunteerResource.org, a comprehensive virtual library, is designed to facilitate “easy connections to ideas and information” relative to volunteering, volunteer management, and effective engagement of people and resources to solve community problems. It was unveiled to the public at the 2005 National Conference on Volunteering and Service.
Enthusiastically received by conference attendees representing the field of volunteering professionals, practitioners had the opportunity to peruse and critique the Web site. Users were excited by the concept; however feedback suggested some retooling for greater and easier access to content.
“So, we went back to the drawing board,” states Renee L. Wilson Gaines, program associate of VolunteerResource.org, who has been working with the project since late 2004. Featuring three components – library, bookstore and marketplace – VolunteerResource.org has grown to contain over 700 resources on volunteering with subjects as varied as disaster, neighboring, mentoring, employee volunteering and more.
