ESTABLISHING LOCAL P-16 EDUCATION COMPACTS
A new publication from the Stark Education Partnership, a local education fund, tells the story of how one middle American community did not wait for No Child Left Behind (NCLB) or Ohio’s academic content standards and assessment system to begin the process of large scale systemic education reform not just for K-12 education, but for the entire system — preschool through college and beyond — into the workforce and towards economic viability in the 21st century. The free, downloadable book is not intended to be an academic work, though ample footnotes and an annotated web-based bibliography on P-16 efforts are included. The book, written by Joseph A. Rochford, is intended to start and perhaps, in some small way, support a discussion in your community on both the feasibility and advisability of establishing a P-16 Council or Compact.
