Description: A frequently cited barrier to faculty involvement in community-based participatory research, service-learning and other forms of community-engaged scholarship is the risk associated with trying to achieve promotion and tenure. Community-engaged scholarship (CES) poses significant challenges to traditional definitions of scholarship and is not often supported by the promotion and tenure process. The goal of the Community-Engaged Scholarship Toolkit (http://www.communityengagedscholarship.info) is to provide health professional faculty with a set of tools to carefully plan and document their community-engaged scholarship and produce strong portfolios for promotion and tenure. It includes several components including sections on planning for promotion and tenure, creating a strong portfolio, examples of portfolios from community-engaged scholars, and references and resources. Please join this call to learn more about this exciting new faculty development resource!

Objectives:

* Learn about the components of the Community-Engaged Scholarship Toolkit, how they were developed and how they can be applied

* Learn about strategies for developing a vision for community-engaged scholarship, working with mentors, and producing a strong portfolio for promotion and tenure.

* Identify ways to incorporate the toolkit into a school?s faculty development program.

Participation is encouraged for community-engaged faculty, academic administrators, and members of faculty promotion and tenure committees.
