New Section of YouthLearn Website: Afterschool & Technology

I’m very pleased to announce that YouthLearn has just added a new section to our website called “Afterschool & Technology.” In this new subsection of the main site, we explore how afterschool programs can promote content-rich learning in fun and creative ways with the aid of various technology tools. The section features promising afterschool programming strategies from eight dynamic initiatives around the country. Each has effectively utilized technology to foster academic learning, while still promoting youth-led, project-based methods.
Selected programs include:
– After-School Learning Center, Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center
– Girls Creating Games, ETR Associates
– After School Computer Labs Project, Missouri 4-H Youth Development
– ECHOES Program, Heads on Fire
– Project ACCELERATE, The Children’s Museum of Houston
– Spaghetti Book Club
– Robotics Program – Apollo’s Vision Club, Inc.
– Long Beach YMCA Youth Institute

Also included are a range of resources for afterschool practitioners to help them better integrate technology and information literacy in their programming. We hope that the ideas showcased in the new Technology & Afterschool section can spark discussion in our community and elsewhere on how best to promote powerful learning. Special thanks to each of the organizations who gave of their time and expertise.
