Using the Environment as an Integrating Context for Learning (EIC)
A recent report shows that the Environment as an Integrating Context for Learning (EIC) model improves student academic achievement in all core disciplines, and shows success in every state implemented. Children are shown to do better in the classroom, and are engaged in real-world, community based, and standards-aligned environmental investigative and service-learning projects. The model arises from national research undergone by the State Education and Environment Roundtable (SEER), and combines a “best practices” approach to learning with natural and social systems. The outlooks of teachers and students are improved, as well as their interaction in the classroom toward more effective learning.
