Updates to PhillyNeighborhoods.org

PhillyNeighborhoods.org Web Site Updated and Improved

With a new year, we are pleased to report that we have updated, reorganized, and improved the home page of the PhillyNeighborhoods.org web site that is visited more than 150,000 times a year by activists, organizations, students, and concerned citizens in Philadelphia and beyond.

The address of the web site remains the same: http://www.phillyneighborhoods.org

When you reach the site, you will see a banner connecting you to a new web site for a “Safe Schools Campaign” that the Institute for the Study of Civic Values has launched this year. We will report more on that in a separate email.

The next banner is “Neighborhoods on the Map,” which takes you directly to the section of the home page that features the Philadelphia map of Planning Analysis Districts. Click on each of these and you will reach a web page devoted to the each section of Philadelphia (Northwest Philadelphia, West Philadelphia, South Philadelphia, Northeast Philadelphia, etc.).

The body of the web site includes four boxes of links, designated as follows: Clean and Safe Blocks; Community Development; Kids, Schools, Adult Education; and The Neighborhood Economy. Here, we have organized links to City and community web sites that enable neighborhood activists and others to get to the information they most need fast.

The banner leading to forms for subscribing to one of our email lists remains intact, as does the banner at the bottom linking to our Neighborhoods Online: National web site.

The links to web pages devoted to areas of neighborhood concern–housing, education, crime, education,etc.–remain intact and we will be updating these pages over the next few weeks as well.

The enormous interest shown in the City’s Wireless Project demonstrates that overcoming the digital divide has become a major priority for Philadelphia.

As a pioneer in this effort, the Institute for the Study of Civic Values will be working to broaden access to our web sites and participation in our email lists during the current year as well.
