CCPH members in Philadelphia may be interested in an article by David Webb and Jessica Robbins published in the November 2004 issue of the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. The article, entitled “Neighborhood Poverty, Mortality Rates, and Excess Deaths Among African Americans: Philadelphia 1999-2001,” was highlighted in a press release sent out by Meharry Medical College (where the journal originates), and has therefore received somewhat broader attention than we anticipated. For example, the authors were interviewed on Texas Talk Radio 990, and the study was featured in an article on http://www.BlackCollegeView.com.
The journal is available at: http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/journal_of_health_care_for_the_poor_and_underserved/toc/hpu15.4.html
