New Report: National Effort to Improve Health Literacy

Institute of Medicine Report Calls for National Effort to Improve Health Literacy Nearly 90 million Americans, or half of the adult population, do not have the ability to understand and make informed decisions about their health, a situation that may be causing billions of dollars in avoidable health care costs, and higher hospitalization rates and use of emergency services, according to the report.
