Updates to Phillyneighborhoods.org

Hi-
It’s been a long time–too long–since I made significant changes in the phillyneighborhoods web site (http://phillyneighborhoods.org) Over the past few days, I’ve done it.

Beyond cosmetic improvements, there are changes on the home page that ought to help:

1) The “Take Action” menu near the top of the list now adds links to social service groups that respond to food, fuel, and housing crises–along with fast action to the forms on phila.gov that you can use to submit complaints to L&I, the Police, the Streets Department, other agencies to address block and neighborhood problems.

2) The extensive menu on “Neighborhoods and Schools” remains near the top, with all links update.

3) The “Violence No More in 2004” banner linking to information about our Safe Schools Campaign remains at the top of the page, along with a link to subscription forms for our various lists and a link to PhillyBlocks.

4) The links to national sites–Neighborhoods Online: National, Civic Values, and the BushBudget are brought to together at the center of page.

5) The “Data and Neighborhood Information” section at the bottom half of the site includes a long list of links to census data and related data and other web sites providing useful information about neighborhoods, along with a parallel column of links to organizations and programs aimed at building community.

6) We make it clear that if you click on a section of our Neighborhood Planning District map, you are taken to a menu specific to that section of the city (South, Southwest, West, etc.). Additionally, we provide a link to the Census Bureau’s web site that enables you to report on census information if you simply enter an address. Quite useful.

There are other changes in the rest of the web site, but these are the most important.
