Re: your inquiry about career education for high school students, please see the National Service Resource Center’s effective practice, “Starting a career development tutoring program in ten steps” at http://epicenter.nationalserviceresources.org/index.taf?_function=detail&Layout_0_uid1=33390

This effective practice describes ten steps for beginning a tutoring/mentoring program based on the philosophy that all youth, but particularly those from low-income families, need positive role models that demonstrate the skills of self-esteem and good learning habits to move from poverty to jobs to a career. These materials have been excerpted with permission from the Tutor/Mentor Exchange website. The Tutor/Mentor Exchange has successfully used these strategies with tutoring/mentoring youth in the economically disadvantaged areas of Chicago, Illinois. A link to the Tutor Mentor Exchange site is provided.

With over 500 best practices in the collection, The National Service Resource Center’s effective practices database (http://nationalserviceresources.org/epicenter/) provides a way for members, volunteers, and service professionals to learn from each other and more effectively serve their communities.
