NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR FUTURE URBAN REDEVELOPMENT LEADERS
Through a unique partnership between the urban development industry, the University of Pennsylvania and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, we are seeking 10 highly motivated individuals each year to become CURExPenn Fellows. Fellows receive knowledge and skill development from leading experts in the field, and on-the-job experience through two-year fellowships at top urban redevelopment organizations nationwide. The program supports the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs who will transform neighborhoods and cities.
PROGRAM: Fellows divide their time between education and practical experience. Beginning with intensive training at Penn, fellows are placed in project management roles on large-scale developments that will transform distressed neighborhoods and/or commercial areas. Placements are with leading development organizations nationwide, and have a term of two years with the same organization. Every three months fellows spend at least one week in a city throughout the US, exchanging experiences and obtaining further education. They also contribute to a network of fellows, faculty and professionals sharing knowledge and experience.
BENEFITS: Fellows receive salaries and benefits at competitive rates during their education and while working with development organizations. In turn they must make a commitment to continue with the program for the full two-year fellowship. Every effort will be made to match the skills, career interests and regional preferences of fellows with relevant projects and organizations.
SCHEDULE: The first class of up to 10 Fellows will start in January, 2004. Applications, information on host organizations and other program information are available at http://www.upenn.edu/curexpenn. You can also request information by writing, calling or e-mailing Valerie Piper, Executive Director, Center for Urban Redevelopment Excellence at Penn, Meyerson Hall, University of Pennsylvania, 210 S. 34th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-6311, (215)898-7631, curepenn@pobox.upenn.edu. Application deadline is July 31, 2003.
