Youth Today Newspaper: Article on S-L
Posted by on November 15, 2002
If you haven’t picked up this month’s issue of Youth Today Newspaper, I encourage you to do so and check out the front page article on service-learning. [For those without subscription, I believe you can get to the article at the following link:

It raises some interesting questions regarding service-learning and whether or not it has moved away from community impact by becoming more curriculum-based. Thought it might stir up some discussion.
Excerpt: “…Like much of the country, the youth ‘community service’ movement has been eclipsed by ‘service-learning.’ And the objective to get teens to volunteer in community-based organizations has been largely replaced by projects that come under the school curriculum…As the service-learning phenomenon spreads nationwide, fundamental questions [are raised] about what service-learning is and what it achieves.”
Happy reading.
