C-SPAN sponsors student video competition
C-SPAN StudentCam is an annual documentary competition that encourages students to think seriously about issues that affect our communities and our nation.
StudentCam is open to individuals or teams of up to three students, grades 6-12. The competition is also open to international students and there will be one $500 prize for the best international entry. Videos must be the original work of students but teachers may provide guidance and critiques.
This year’s topic is A Message to the New President. Students should address what they think is the most urgent issue for the new president to tackle after taking office and why. Videos should be between 5 and 8 minutes and should include more than one point of view. Students must use C-SPAN programming to enhance their documentary. Videos that do not use C-SPAN programming will be disqualified.
In 2009, StudentCam will award 75 student prizes and 11 teacher prizes totaling $50,000. Separate prizes will be awarded for entries by Middle School students and High School students. For more information, go here.
