PHILADELPHIA?S WORKING FAMILIES STRUGGLE TO GAIN SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Philadelphia City Council to Hold Hearings on PathWaysPA 2006 Self-Sufficiency Standard
October 5, 2006, at 1 PM
Philadelphia City Hall, Room 400
On October 5, 2006 at 1PM, Councilman Wilson Goode, Jr., will hold a hearing on the Pennsylvania Self-Sufficiency Standard (Philadelphia City Hall, Room 400 Council Chambers). PathWaysPA will present the Standard as it relates to the state?s minimum wage increase and Philadelphia?s 21st Century Minimum Standard Wage Bill. A number of community members will join PathWaysPA in explaining how their clients suffer from low wages despite hard work.
$44,190 is the income that a family of three (one adult, one infant, and one preschooler) needs to earn in Philadelphia County in order to cover their basic needs according to PathWaysPA?s 2006 Self-Sufficiency Standard for Pennsylvania. The Standard for Pennsylvania uses a sophisticated scale that identifies real costs in each of Pennsylvania?s counties and uses them to establish a Self-Sufficiency Wage for 70 different family types in each county.
