Take the Philadelphia Food Stamp Challenge!
Many of us donate canned goods to the food bank before the holidays; some of us volunteer to pack food boxes or serve a hot meal to those in need. But what is it really like not to know where your next meal is coming from, or how you will afford enough food to last through the month? Take the Food Stamp Challenge and find out.
As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger is issuing a challenge to the community: learn about the physical, emotional, and social difficulties of poverty and food insecurity by living on a food stamp budget for just one week. During the week of July 17, participants in the Food Stamp Challenge will buy their groceries using the maximum food stamp benefit for their household size. For a household of one, that is $35.47 for the week – $5.07 per day or $1.68 per meal.
Please take this opportunity to join your neighbors in learning more about the problems of hunger and food insecurity that others face every day. Join us for the Philadelphia Food Stamp Challenge! To learn more, contact Julie at the Coalition Against Hunger: jzaebst@hungercoalition.org or 215-430-0555.
