YES Digital Media Training Program Now Enrolling Students

The YES Digital Media Training Program (DMTP) is an exciting, hands-on job training program with instruction in graphics, web design, video production, audio engineering and digital video editing. Participants will use state-of-the-art, professional grade equipment and have access to trained media specialists. The DMTP connects students to employers, continuing education and supportive services through internships, work readiness and education services.

The DMTP is for low-income Philadelphia residents, ages 17-21, who are unemployed and do not have a high school diploma. The DMTP is an 18-week program. Eligible students can come in during the enrollment period to sign up. The next training cycle begins on May 15, 2006.

Students are required to help out with equipment set up so be prepared to so some light physical labor! In the field of Digital Media Production, everyone has to pitch in and help.

Here’s how the program works. There are 3 phases of the program:

+ Phase 1: Digital Media Basic Training. There are 8-weeks of intensive training during Phase 1. Each week covers a different topic.

Topics Covered: Basic Computer Operation and Function, Intro to Graphic Design, Shooting Video, Lighting Video, Audio for Video, Basic Video Editing, Intro to Internet Technologies and Intro to Microsoft Office.

+ Phase 2: Producing a Video. During this 6-week phase you will write, shoot, direct, act in and produce your own 1-minute video.

+ Phase 3: Final Cut Pro 5, “Pre-Certification Training.” The award-winning video editing program is Apple’s Final Cut Pro. Most movie and TV editors use this program. During the last four weeks (Phase 3) youth will practice using the official Final Cut Pro 5 Certification Training Guide.

This certification looks great on a resume and will give.youth the edge they will need they look for a job as a video editor.

What do you need to do to get in to the DMTP? There are income and age guidelines. Youth, ages 17-21 must demonstrate an excellent attitude and a serious desire to learn about computers and media production. This program is designed to prepare students for a career in video production! Students who work hard will be able to produce their own videos by the end of the program.
