The Fabric of Philadelphia
Be a Part of Living History!
The Design Center at Philadelphia University is holding a Community Workshop on the afternoon of May 17th, 2006 for a new cultural heritage tourism initiative called The Fabric of Philadelphia. The gathering will bring together members of the Philadelphia neighborhoods traditionally involved in the region?s textile industry to explore the resources that exist to tell the stories of Philadelphia?s rich textile heritage. We are currently seeking participants for the workshop from these communities who represent a range of potential audiences, such as seniors, teens, and adults, to help us identify the best stories to tell and the best ways to tell them. Our conversation will focus on different kinds of activities, exhibits, programs, tours, publications and virtual experiences that can engage area residents and visitors in many different ways and a variety of locations, and we need your input! If you or someone in your family was active in the textile industry in Philadelphia ? for example, as a mill worker or owner, seamstress, tailor, designer, advertiser, architect, member of the ILGWU, etc. ? or if you have a particular knowledge of or interest in one of Philadelphia?s historic textile neighborhoods and are interested in participating in this conversation, please contact Carla Bednar, Assistant Director of The Design Center, at 215-951-2860, or e-mail thedesigncenter@philau.edu.
We have an amazing story to tell, and we need you to help us tell it!
