Sunday Night Film Series: The Real Dirt on Farmer John
Sunday, April 23, 7:00 pm
White Dog Cafe
3420 Sansom Street, Philadelphia PA
Farmer John is an unprecedented story that captures the rise and fall of the Peterson family farm and its resurrection through John?s courage to build a new form of community. Against all odds, eccentric Peterson abandons conventional chemical farming and fights local hysteria to build a thriving organic farm and a progressive farm community.
Discussion will be led by Farmer Michael Ahlert of Red Earth Farm, a small scale diversified organic vegetable farm located in Schuylkill County, and Ann Karlen of the Philadelphia Fair Food Project, which is dedicated to bringing locally grown food into the Philadelphia marketplace and promoting a humane, sustainable agriculture for the Greater Philadelphia region.
Join us as we welcome Spring and kick off the growing season! This forum will be a great networking opportunity to meet people and learn more about community and city supported agriculture.
This free preview screening event is a special co-presentation of ITVS Community Cinema, the White Dog Caf? and WHYY TV. The Real Dirt on Farmer John airs nationally on the Emmy award-winning PBS Series, Independent Lens, June 13th at 10pm (check local listings at http://whyy.org, click on TV schedules). (53 mins)
