Film Screening & Discussion: Eminent Domain and Gentrification

In 2001, the City of Philadelphia announced the arrival of the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative (NTI). Under NTI, the City has seized thousands of homes and displaced many residents so private developers can use the land for profit.

Eminent domain and gentrification are two of the most pressing issues facing Philadelphia, yet there hasn?t been significant media discussion representing a variety of viewpoints. What coverage there has been seems to have focused more on the ?positive? aspects of NTI and eminent domain, argued heavily by developers & contractors, instead of the often-overlooked consequences that it has on local residents and communities.

In an effort to create dialog about the state of local news and coverage of important community issues, please join Media Tank and concerned citizens for a discussion about these issues and a screening of All for the Taking, a locally produced, independent film by George McCollough that explores eminent domain in Philadelphia and the effects of NTI on our local neighborhoods.
