Organizing Against Poverty
Posted by on February 3, 2006
Are you tired of “stupid poverty” (Bono) – where a person dies every three seconds in the developing world because they’re “too poor to live” or works hard and responsibly in this country and still lives below or near the poverty line? Are you tired of reading literature, attending events and listening to stirring calls for a “movement” to end poverty, then seeing nothing move?
Do you sometimes feel lonely, isolated and marginalized by your concern about these issues and wish you had like-minded people to interact with? Would you like to learn more about these problems to be more effective in your response? Are you ready to ACT, rather than just talk about, “making poverty history” in our lifetime?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please join us for an organizing meeting on Saturday, February 11 at 10:30 AM at Old St. Joseph’s Church Hall, 321 Willings Alley (between 3rd & 4th, Walnut & Locust Sreets). This is NOT a church-sponsored event, and is open to all regardless of background. We will discuss ways we can deepen our knowledge and commitment to ending poverty and effectively advocate for public policies to reduce unnecessary suffering and death in our nation and world. Your participation,
energy and insight are sorely needed, deeply appreciated and may just save lives in the future.
