[PHILADELPHIA] As part of Black History Month, Project H.O.M.E. will host a showing of ?Standing on My Sisters?s Shoulders,? an award-winning documentary co-produced by Philadelphians Joan and Robert Sadoff. The film tells the first-hand story of Mississippi women who risked their lives in the fight for Civil Rights and emerged as heroines. William Ferris, Ph.D., former Chairman, National Endowment for the Humanities has called Sisters ?a classic portrait of the women who risked their lives to achieve Civil Rights for all Americans ? This is a film every American should see and never forget.?
A panel of community activists will comment on the film and discuss how we work for justice in our society today. Panelists will include Christine Washington, long-time civil rights activist in Philadelphia and widow of the late Father Paul Washington; Rev. Donna Jones, pastor of Cookman United Methodist Church in North Philadelphia; and Malik Azziz of Men United for a Better North Philadelphia. Co-producer Joan Sadoff will also be present to talk about the making of the film.
?We need stories of those who have gone before us in the struggle for justice to empower us as we face critical challenges today,? said Sister Mary Scullion, Executive Director of Project H.O.M.E. and a long-time advocate for poor and homeless persons in Philadelphia. ?Showing this film is a celebration of courage and commitment.?
