Followed by Presentation by artist Tim Rollins
5:00 – 6:30pm — Thomas Eakins House – 1729 Mt. Vernon St.
RECEPTION STARTS AT 5PM; EXHIBIT TIM ROLLINS WILL SPEAK AT 6:30
Our annual winter exhibit will spotlight the Big Picture program, serving youth ages 10 to 14, and the Mural Corps program – our advanced program for youth ages 14 to 21. It will be a very exciting opportunity for people to see the richness of the young artists? work, and for our young people to be publicly recognized as talented artists
After the reception, renowned artist and educator Tim Rollins will discuss his collaborative work with K.O.S. (Kids of Survival). Rollins and K.O.S. have worked together since the early 1980s when Rollins, a teacher in the Bronx, established an art workshop for students with learning disabilities. Out of this grew a collective art practice which has become the trademark of his work with the students. K.O.S. call themselves Kids of Survival in recognition of the skills acquired through the workshops which have helped them to better navigate the social, cultural, and political factions that make up their world.
