Spread the Word! New Spring Community Arts Course at Tyler School of Art
Interdisciplinary Seminar in Community Arts
Tuesdays: 3:40 ? 6:30, Temple?s Main Campus
Community-based Arts brings artists together with people of a community of location, spirit, or tradition, to create art that is based in the life of that community, and linked to social justice work. In this seminar, students will gain exposure to established Community-based Arts projects through field trips and guest speakers, learn about the history and theory of Community Arts, and think critically about the issues of race, class, and aesthetics inherent in Community Arts practice.
Guest speakers from Philadelphia community-based arts programs will teach on topics including:
? Community-based Performance
? Architecture and Community Design
? Sculpture and Public Art
? Community-based Media
? Community-based Writing and Publishing
The course will also prepare students to become involved in the growing number of field internships in Community Arts that are being offered at Temple, including an upcoming project involving Arab-American and Jewish-American communities in Philadelphia and in Israel/Palestine.
Students from the arts and non-arts disciplines, undergraduate and graduate students, are invited to register.
