The Role of Student Engagement in the Transition to High School

The Philadelphia Education Fund has announced the first of its fall 2005 Distinguished Educator Lecture Series “The Neglected Importance of Connections: The Role of Student Engagement in the Transition to High School” by Dr. Christopher C. Weiss, Tuesday, October 18, 2005 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, 7 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, 1st Floor.
The lecture series consists of FREE public events supporting dialog on education related issues among students, parents, researchers, educators, advocates, service providers, other community stakeholders, distinguished lecturers and foremost researchers from the field.
Dr. Weiss’ talk will focus on the role of student engagement on student outcomes and utilizing the Philadelphia Educational Longitudinal Study (PELS) research explore issues pertaining to 8th to 9th grade transition, services of out-of-school youth, dropout prevention, and promotion of student achievement.
Refreshments will be provided at this FREE event.
