The Teen Leadership Assistants of the Free Library of Philadelphia are excited to announce the sixth annual
Youth Empowerment Summit: YES 2005.
The Summit is being planned by and for Philadelphia teens and will focus on career development, information access, and issues concerning the future of Philadelphia’s teens. We would like to invite you to take part in this exciting event on Wednesday, May 18th, 2005. It will be held at the Central Library, 1901 Vine Street from 9 am to 3 pm.
Teens on the Summit Planning Committee wrote this mission statement:
The mission of this Summit is to empower youth to explore common interests by sharing ideas through expression, entertainment, fellowship and discussion in a united effort to become individuals who travel their own path to adulthood.
The Summit will begin with a keynote address on this year’s theme “Expand Your Horizons.” The planning committee chose this theme to represent their individual identities and describe their transition to independence, as they become young leaders in their communities. Workshops will be offered during the day on topics including college, careers, health, financial aid, and self-expression. Each teen attending the Summit will have the opportunity to attend two workshops. During the lunch period, there will be an information fair with colleges and agencies that serve teens.
We invite you to participate in this important day.
