Black Family Technology Awareness Week (2/13 – 2/19/05)
Workforce 2000 is collaborating with the Mayor’s Commission on Technology, the School District, Temple University Fox School of Business and City Council to plan and coordinate activities for the 2005 Black Family Technology Awareness Week.
The purpose of Black Family Technology Awareness Week is to change how African Americans perceive engineering, science and technology.
This years focus is “Technology & Medicine.”
The College of Physicians of Philadelphia will showcase and demonstrate a health information project, with kiosks in various locations in the city; the School District of Philadelphia’s Robotics Education Specialist will showcase the use of robotics in the health industry. The Benefit Bank program will also be demonstrated at churches and community based organizations to show participants how to use technology as a tool to help enhance income and overcome poverty; and Aprille Ericcson, Ph.D., an aerospace engineer at NASA, will come from Washington,D.C. to Philadelphia a speak to students; and a technology track will be developed to provide workshops for Congressman Chaka Fattah’s Graduate Opportunities Program for high school juniors and seniors.
Additional participants include: United Way of Southeastern PA (Teaming 4 Technology), Educational Advance Alliance, Black Data Processing Associates, National Society of Black Engineers, and many more.
