VOTE! Music Festival

Posted by on September 3, 2004

On Sunday, September 12, the Philadelphia Songwriters Project will present the VOTE! Music Festival.

This free, all ages event will take place at 50 different venues throughout Philadelphia and 5 surrounding counties from 2:00 to 4:30 PM. It is slated to be the largest, simultaneous music festival of original songwriters representing diverse musical genres ever to take place in this area.

Executive Director and Co-Founder, Dena Marchiony explains the concept behind this festival. ? In our work with songwriters of this region, the universal desire expressed across the board is ?To be heard?. We felt this sentiment dovetailed perfectly with the purpose behind voting- for the Citizens To Be Heard. VOTE! Music Festival brings the action to the people, in every neighborhood in the Delaware Valley.?

The Vote! Music Festival is a non-partisan, non-political event designed to bring communities together through the art of music regardless of political ideology. In recognition of our unity as American citizens, the Festival is meant to stimulate voter awareness and voter registration across all party lines. Volunteers will be on hand at every venue to assist with voter registration.

Across the city and surrounding counties, from local pubs to historical churches, featuring original songwriters and music from acoustic to rock to classical to hip-hop, the Philadelphia Songwriters Project is bringing this Festival to every community. Appearing in neighborhoods throughout the region, the Festival invites area residents to participate in the democratic process as outlined in our Constitution ? a government by the people, for the people.

Philadelphia Songwriters Project is a non-profit arts and education organization that serves local and regional songwriters and performers by providing performance opportunities, workshops, and master classes. Launched in January 2003, the Project has produced over 40 concerts with over 200 local songwriters. Details on participating venues and performers can be found on the Philadelphia Songwriters Project website at http://www.phillysongwriters.com.
