    Solid Waste Management: Taking Action in Your Community

    Delaware Valley Earth Force, a local non-profit education organization, in partnership with Pennsbury Manor is proud to present a three day institute for educators. Educators throughout Bucks County are invited to participate in our 1st Solid Waste Management institute where we will explore the issue of solid waste management through its past, present, and future. Earth Force?s model of community action and problem solving (CAPS) will be the vehicle by which we will travel through time and across the curriculum. While the subject of this institute is science based, the CAPS process is an interdisciplinary approach to addressing issues of all kinds. As we make our way through this journey, we will make many stops to explore, examine, and plan a course of action, all the while addressing pertinent academic standards. The over-all goal of this institute is to provide teachers with:

  • A new tool to engage students in their curriculum and community
  • A step by step exploration of the CAPS process
  • A model and resources for integrating and implementing CAPS in the classroom
  • An in depth understanding of solid waste management
  • An interactive tour of Pennsbury Manor, Tullytown Resource Recovery Facility, Wheelabrator and Otter Recycling
  • Resources in the community
  • The opportunity to hear from industry professionals, local policy makers and environmentalists
  • Act 48 credits
