Community Tree Stewards course on Community Forestry

Community Tree Stewards: A 2 Day Short Course on Community Forestry in Pennsylvania
Montgomery County 4H Center, Creamery, PA
Wednesday, May 19 and Thursday, May 20, 2004.

This two-day program helps municipal shade tree commissions and volunteers better manage and care for their community trees. Topics include understanding street tree, tree preservation, and timber harvesting ordinances; performing tree inventories; assessing tree condition and risk; developing a community tree management plan; reducing liability; assessing planting sites, selecting the right trees and proper planting; training and keeping volunteers; working with the media, local officials, and public utilities; understanding community benefits; contracting tree work; fundraising for community trees; pruning trees according to ANSI A300 National Standards; and applying for Tree City USA and state and federal grant funds.

Short Course Cost: $140
Each participant will receive over $90 of extensive reference materials including the Community Tree Stewards Resource Guide ($40 value), a 3-ring binder containing over 300 pages of essential information for tree programs; A Guide for Municipal Tree Commissions ($10 value), written specifically for Pennsylvania; Fundraising for Community Tree Projects ($10 value), a 29 page guide including information on how to identify funders, sample letters, and much more; and the newly revised Landscape Tree Factsheets ($30 value), a 400 page, full color guide to tree selection containing over 200 tree species and cultivars (a must for all tree people).
