Performances Celebrating African American Literature
Who: Rosenbach Museum & Library, nationally known storyteller and author
Linda Goss, and local musician Alfie Pollitt.
What: Words and Wisdom: African American Literature from Slavery to the Civil Rights Movement — performances for families and school groups presented by storyteller Linda Goss
Performance Dates & Locations:
* Saturday, April 10, 3pm; African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch Street
* Sunday, May 2, 2pm; Johnson House, 6306 Germantown Avenue
* Wednesday, May 5, 4pm; Cecil B. Moore Library, 2320 W. Cecil B. Moore Avenue
* Saturday, May 8, 3pm; Paul Robeson House, 4949 Walnut Street
Details: Inspired by the Rosenbach’s collections, Words and Wisdom highlights the contributions of African American writers of the last two centuries including slave poet Phillis Wheatley and Harlem Renaissance master Langston Hughes. Linda Goss, wearing traditional African clothing, will take the audience on a mesmerizing journey through African American literary history with her engaging storytelling set to a medley of African American spiritual tunes. A comprehensive timeline produced by Rosenbach Hirsig Family Director of Education Bill Adair and Linda Goss will be distributed to attendees. All performances are free and open to the public.
