Image Contractors ?- Co-owner Arley Espinosa came to the US from Colombia over 20 years ago. He endured homelessness and illegality for many years before attaining citizenship. During his time working as a janitor and handyman, Arley always dreamed of owning his own business and in 2001 this dream came true when he created Image Contractors, a construction company. All of the employees are low-income and many are in need of a second chance. For Arley, seeing his employees grow and learn new skills is the best part of being a business owner.
Eviama Life Spa – Penny Ordway runs a green spa in Center City that uses only natural products and techniques. As she grew her business, she was very conscious about using green materials and green energy. Penny’s spa is a haven for pampering, but in a responsible and empowering way that takes into account our relationship with the planet.
Grupo Motivos – Grupo Motivos is a social project, bringing Puerto Rican women together to share their cultural heritage and teach it to younger generations. The main means of funding for the project is their catering business, which offers authentic Puerto Rican food. For Grupo, making and serving food is a money-making venture, but at its core, it is the means to their dream of maintaining and spreading their culture as immigrant women in a country that is not their own.
