Philadelphia activists share lessons and direction for the future inspired from a rich early history including the first lying in hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, and first women’s medical school formerly, Women’s Medical College. Panelists discuss the leadership of a vibrant women’s and consumer health movement during the 1970s-90s that spurred the development of the Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center for Women, Booth Maternity Center, Childbirth Education Association, numerous consumer activist groups and the Maternity Care Coalition. MCC’s commitment to blending direct service and advocacy and its National Safe Motherhood award winning MOMobile program and Empowerment research will be emphasized as currents efforts to mobilize the community for health.
