Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO – Campaign Manager (Full time, Salaried)
The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO is one of the largest Central Labor Councils in the US, representing close to 150,000 unionized workers in Philadelphia, PA. The work of the Council is directed by a full time, elected President in consultation with an elected Executive Board representing a broad cross section of labor leaders in the region. The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO is committed to strengthening the union movement by educating and motivating union members, supporting the right of workers to join unions, and creating a powerful political voice that speaks for workers.
We are currently seeking a dynamic, experienced person as a full time Campaign Manager. As the labor movement continues to develop and change so, too, will the work of the Philadelphia AFL-CIO and the Campaign Manager. The ideal candidate will be a self starter comfortable working in a high pressure, small office environment with the ability to work long, often irregular hours. The Campaign Manager will report directly to the President. The position offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package including health insurance and pension.
Qualifications, Expectations and Requirements:
This list is meant to provide a sense of what will be included and expected of a Campaign Manager but should not be considered exhaustive:
• At least five (5) years experience in labor, political, or community organizing
• Bachelor’s Degree, or post high school labor degree, preferred
• Strong leadership and relationship building skills; must be able to cultivate and maintain relationships with diverse group of labor, political and community leaders
• Familiarity with the culture of organized labor
• Team player comfortable in small office environment
• Ability to work independently on tight deadlines and to be accountable for outcomes
• Experience with campaign plan writing for electoral, legislative, and/or organizing campaigns
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and a comfort level developing and writing letters, newsletters, testimony, presentations, resolutions, press releases, speeches, summaries of legislation, and other related items
• Must have advanced computer literacy and experience working with MS office, LAN (or VAN), and basic internet research capabilities.
• Comfort with using data and databases
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local legislative process
• Responsible to effectively maintain, and continue development of, standing Political Coordinator committee; including leading fundraising activities for the Political Action Fund
• Must possess an automobile and be willing to travel for work related activities
