Organic Land Care course

PHS will partner with the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) to present the Mid-Atlantic accreditation course in Organic Land Care on December 2-5 at the PHS offices in Philadelphia (100 N. 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103).  This 30-hour course for land care professionals, designers, municipal and institutional employees, environmental educators and others provides a well-rounded curriculum for an understanding of organic land care principles, practices, design and maintenance. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to incorporate land care methods and materials that respect natural ecology and the long-term health of the environment into their businesses or education programs.  The curriculum is based on NOFA’s Standards for Land Care: Practices for Design and Maintenance of Ecological Landscapes. These Standards, first published in 2001 and revised semi-annually, extend the vision and practices of organic agriculture to the care of landscapes where we live our daily lives and lands which we choose to steward.

Growing public awareness of pesticide use hazards and new legislation mandating least toxic and non-toxic alternatives are fueling a new market opportunity for professionals with knowledge of organic lawn, gardens and landscape care.  NOFA’s accreditation program allows clients to identify trained professionals who can help them to manage their land organically.
