What if your students had extra help in planning for college?
Help them get ready with SJU’s
College Ready Workshop
Saturday, October 26, 2013
Campion Student Center
9:00am – 2:00pm
The SJU College Ready workshop is designed as a service to our community. Our Admissions, Financial Aid, and Career Counseling staff have created interactive sessions that will give students the tools to succeed in the college admissions process and beyond.
Students will:
· Gain awareness on how to select colleges to apply to that will match their interests as well as their academic profile and financial needs.
· Get help developing a timeline of college admissions deadlines, as well as an insider’s look into the selection process through a mock-application review
· Meet with our Career Development Center staff will guide students to a major and career that matches their interests and their strengths
· Write a first draft of his/her college admissions essay or review their current draft to make it more effective.
· Students will have the opportunity to hone their communication skills and online persona to prepare for the college admissions process and for life. Topics will include the admissions interview, the importance of social media and establishing relationships with the universities where it can make a difference.
Through our special parent sessions, parents will come away with:
· An in-depth understanding of the college admissions and financial aid processes. From understanding application deadlines, financial aid deadlines to knowing when students should take their SAT’s, the more the parent knows the more they can assist his/her student.
· We will also have an in-depth financial aid session where parents will be familiarized with the FAFSA, the key that unlocks the door to federal and state aid.
Who should attend: While the College Ready Workshop is geared towards rising high school juniors and seniors that may be first-generation, traditionally under served, it is open to anyone who is looking for assistance in this often chaotic process. This workshop is free and lunch will be provided.
