Uptown Theater Announces Completion of the Restoration of Façade Treatment
On October 14, 2013 at 11:30am at the Uptown Theater, 2240 N Broad Street, there will be a press conference and view the arrival of the restored Art Deco Terra Cotta Tile. This restoration project began four years ago when local Artisan, Karen Singer was hired to restore the damaged Art Deco Terra Cotta Tile.
Randal Baron wrote” The Historical Commission commends you and the Uptown Entertainment and Development corporation as well as Karen Singer Tileworks for working to restore the polychrome terra-cotta façade of the Uptown theater as well as the larger goal of bringing the Theater itself back to useful life. It is gratifying to have the restoration pieces made in Philadelphia, a City that played an important role in the manufacturing of terra cotta in the 19th and 20th centuries. These efforts will help bring a magnificent beacon back to Broad Street and North Philadelphia”.
Officials from the Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation will be on hand to participate in this event. Earl Young, founder of the Trammps and Drummer for Philadelphia International Records Band, MFSB will also be on hand.
Officials from the City of Philadelphia have been invited to participate.
The Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation is a nonprofit Community Development Corporation dedicated to neighborhood revitalization. Projects include the restoration of the Uptown Theater, Youth programs, planning and neighborhood services.
