Volunteers needed to beautify a Philadelphia block and help the environment!

Be part of a team that will help to revamp a storm water bump-out and replant existing rain-gardens to help impact storm water management in the Overbrook neighborhood in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Your contribution will benefit both the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) and an urban neighborhood, while providing a valuable opportunity to engage in a real-world community project. These amendments will aid in the PWD’s ability to maintain these systems as well as improving their functionality.  This space will eventually be enhanced with educational signage to help teach the public about water quality, where water comes from, and where it is going. This initiative is part of an outreach effort for the Penn State Public Media project and documentary Water Blues Green Solutions, looking to encourage public education and awareness of “green infrastructure” and environmentally friendly techniques to tackle the most pressing water challenges in the United States. No experience is needed and all tools are provided! Transportation and accommodations will be provided for students needing to travel from State College to Philadelphia.  Some meals will also be covered.
