FreshRX: A Prescription for Health

Posted by on September 16, 2013

In the past year, the childhood obesity epidemic has received significant attention from the clinical realm and the national media. Since the initial FreshRXTM symposium in June 2012, the conversation around food and health has expanded, especially with the American Medical Association’s recent decision to classify obesity as a disease and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

St. Christopher’s Foundation for Children is pleased to set the table for the next phase of the conversation by hosting FreshRX: A Prescription for Health on October 30, 2013.

Over the course of one day, FreshRXTM will bring together national, regional and local thought leaders, policy change advocates, practitioners working in the field, and media to increase awareness of food inequality and its impact on health. This year’s theme, Exploring the Intersection between Food and Health will identify innovative responses to the obesity epidemic, highlight best practices, and provide practical strategies for incorporating a healthy living/active lifestyle agenda into health care practices. The Keynote Speaker is Roberta Friedman, Director of Public Policy at the Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at Yale University.

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions. With 78 million adults and 12 million children – that’s 1 in 3 Americans – affected by this disease, the issue demands a systematic, multidisciplinary and strategic response.
