Best in Class: The Art of Community Engagement

Friday-Saturday, October 4 – 5, 2013
Ware Center, Millersville University
Downtown Lancaster, PA

Geared for passionate community-oriented and civic-minded student leaders, this two day conference will provide undergraduate students theoretical frameworks and practical skills for making positive change in their communities and on their campuses.  The conference will build upon PACC’s 2011 “Best in Class” student conference, which was funded by Jenzabar Foundation, that provided a framework for exploring the social change model.

On Friday evening, students will explore “First Friday,” Lancaster’s monthly celebration of arts and culture, through a social change lens.  On Saturday, students will participate in theory and skill-based workshops, in addition to engaging with a keynote speaker and participating in a poster session.  A panel exploring post-graduation service options will round out the afternoon.  Students are then welcome to enjoy Lancaster’s biannual “Art Walk” on Saturday afternoon.

Hosted by Millersville University, “Best in Class” is being led by faculty and staff from PA Campus Compact, Millersville University, Franklin & Marshall College, and Susquehanna University.

Poster Session
Individual students or teams of students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a poster session showcasing a project or initiative on their campus or in their community.   Please denote poster session participation in the registration link.

Registration
Students of Member Institutions: $60.00
Students of Non-Member Institutions: $120.00
Registration is limited to the first 100 students and will open early August.
All participants must register by September 13, 2013.

Registration fee covers events and meals on both Friday (dinner) and Saturday (breakfast and lunch).   All other costs associated with the conference (accommodations, parking, meals beyond the three provided) are the responsibility of students and/or institutions.
