Job description
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Senior Center Director oversees all functions of the Senior Center, and is responsible for providing quality services, supervision of staff, fulfilling contract obligations, maintaining units within budget guidelines, and cooperating with the Executive Director and other Directors to develop, implement and coordinate agency services and functions, particularly those related to older persons.
Duties:
- Development of a senior center’s overall work plan.
- Work with existing funders to ensure continued funding.
- Identify appropriate grants, work with the development manager to pursue fundraising opportunities, and develop new ideas to raise funds to support senior center operations.
- Provide services in accordance with the agency’s mission and the goals of the unit and agency.
- Fulfill all contract obligations of units, keep appropriate records, and maintain good working relationships with funding sources.
- Welcome and maintain senior participants in accordance with contract, providing the best possible service for minimum cost, quality programming and maximum client participation.
- Design and implement programs and group activities consisting of a wide range of opportunities for older persons which provide benefits in their skill development, social interaction, mutual peer support and self-sufficiency. This includes life skills and health education provided by self or outside resource people.
- Maintain adequate program staff and volunteers under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Supervise preparation and dissemination of monthly newsletter, schedule of activities monthly menus and announcements to seniors.
- Assist and support center counselor in case management, i.e. case overload, and/or difficult cases.
- Maintain unit within budget guidelines and maintain internal control mechanisms to ensure accountability for audit.
- Interview and supervise volunteers and instructors related to center programs, including scheduling, record keeping, and performance appraisals.
- Meet and work with the Senior Advisory Council concerning operation of programs and activities.
- Cooperate with Management Team to develop and implement new projects and fundraising proposals.
- Follow and implement agency policies and procedures as well as legal guidelines, including, but not limited to, hiring, terminating, employee and participant incident and injury reporting, safety, grievances, etc.
- Conducting unit meetings and attend agency staff meetings.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
