Call to Action
We intend to improve educational outcomes in our city.
Join us. Be the change.

We invite you to coach a Philadelphia elementary school student who is struggling in reading or math. Using a scripted, step-by-step program with a proven track record of success, you will give your student the gift of literacy – a prerequisite for success in any endeavor – or coach them as they master the vital fundamentals of math.

Achieve Now

Achieve Now is a non-profit organization driven by a single goal: to address the literacy and mathematics crisis in our region. Our mission is to move children in chronically under-performing communities to grade-level reading and math, providing them with the building blocks of a successful life.

We equip volunteers with literacy and numeracy programs that have a proven record of success moving students from performing below grade level to testing at or above grade level in an accelerated time frame.

Our vision is bold: move 10,000 children to literacy fluency or numeracy competency by June, 2015 as measured by their scoring proficient or better on state standardized tests.

Get involved. You can make a difference.

  • The facts behind the literacy crisis:
  • In 2012, fewer than 45% of Philadelphia school children were able to read at     grade level.
  • 34% of students tested at Below Basic, the lowest level.
  • Philadelphia’s current high school graduation rate is 63% (percent of 9th graders who graduate in four years).

The literacy rates among fourth grade students across America are equally sobering. An alarming number of children – about 67% nationwide and more than 80% of those from low-income families – are not proficient readers by the end of third grade. The US ranks 25th in math worldwide.
