Home Depot Foundation: Veterans Housing

The Home Depot Foundation (THDF) is seeking opportunities to support veteran housing projects around the country, with a primary focus on permanent supportive housing. Projects may be new construction or rehab, with priority given to renovation and rehab projects, and must be either in progress or about to commence within the next 12 to 18 months. Projects must contain at least 20 units for rental or homeownership, with the majority of these units serving veterans. The Foundation anticipates funding several projects, with awards ranging from $100,000 to $500,000.

The priority markets for these projects are as follows:

Northern Division: Washington, New Jersey Metro, New York Metro, Boston, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Flint, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and Kansas City.
Southern Division: El Paso, Dallas, Little Rock, Charlotte, Raleigh, Virginia Beach, Louisville, Richmond, Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis, Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, Tampa, Miami, and Puerto Rico.
Western Division: Los Angeles City and County, Las Vegas, Mesa, Phoenix, Tucson, Denver, Colorado, Greater Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Yakima, Greater Portland, San Diego City and County, and Eugene.

Organizations interested in applying for funding should submit a concept paper describing their project. This paper should be no longer than four pages and outline the following:

Organization Name/Contact Information
Number of housing units (if transitional housing, number of beds)
Population to be served
Number of Veterans to be served
Overall project cost, including any financing gaps
Percentage of funds secured for the project and list of other funders
Project Location
Projected start date, if the project is not already underway, and targeted completion date
Total grant amount requested
Organizational Overview
Statement of the Issue
– What is the need?
– What is the goal of the project?
Statement of the Solution
– What are the expected short, mid, and long term results?
– What is your referral process?
Project Plan and Scope of Work
Management of Project – Who will manage the project?
Organizational Capacity to manage this project
Sustainability of the Project
