Vision for a New America: A Future Without Poverty
Posted by on January 07, 2013
We at the Center for Hunger Free Communities hope you are finding comfort and joy with your friends and family during this special time of the year.
As we begin a new year with new political leaders, a second-term President, and mounting fiscal issues, we need to continue to raise the issue of poverty and the impact it has on families and children in the US.
We are excited to invite you to a live panel discussion, “Vision for a New America: A Future Without Poverty.” You can join us in person or by tuning in to PBS or CSPAN on January 17th. The event will be moderated and hosted by Tavis Smiley. The Center’s Director, Mariana Chilton, has been invited to participate as a panelist along with other confirmed panelists including:
Rose Ann DeMoro, Executive Director, National Nurses United and California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee
John Graham, Dean, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University
Jonathan Kozol, Advocate and Author, Fire in the Ashes: 25 Years Among the Poorest Children in America
Jeffrey Sachs, Director, The Earth Institute at Columbia University, and Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon
Cornel West, Author and Professor, Union Theological Seminary and Professor Emeritus, Princeton University
The live-broadcast event will be held from 6:30-9:00pm EST on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University, located at 730 21st Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20052. The event is open to the public, but your must register to attend.
