Resources for transition to Kindergarten

Kindergarten Registration is Just Around the Corner!

In most districts Kindergarten Registration usually begins in February or March. Most districts provide the dates and instructions for registration on their websites. Of course kindergarten registration is only a part of preparing children for transition to kindergarten. There are many activities that can be done in the classroom as well as at home with parents throughout the year and there are many good resources available to you.

Another great resource is the Kindergarten is Key Handbook created and originally published by The School District of Philadelphia and the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania (now United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey). This transition guide includes transition activities for schools and teachers as well as parents and caregivers. The guide is now “housed” on the Please Touch Museum website and has been expanded to include contact information and websites of every school district in Pennsylvania!
