NSC is a non-profit organization that provides social, educational, and legal services to immigrants and refugees in the greater Philadelphia area. Our strength lies in the diversity of our clients and services. Since NSC’s founding in 1921, our mission has been to help immigrants and refugees participate fully in American society. Each year, we help approximately 4,000 individuals from over 90 countries.
Position Overview
The Job Developer will identify employment sectors and prospective employers that might be good matches for a large case load of newly arrived refugees and newly granted asylees. S/he will create and deliver a successful marketing plan that will result in expanding NSC’s employer base. S/he will place REAP participants in jobs and support placements with retention activities, while working in concert with employment counselors. She/he will comply with all funders and NSC requirements and submit all required documentation and reports in a correct and timely manner. The Job Developer will also support other REAP job developers/employment counselors.
The Job Developer position has internal contacts with the entire administrative staff and external contact with clients, employers, representatives of other social services agencies, and the community. This position has access to sensitive NSC and client information and is expected to handle such information with integrity and professionalism. This position is expected to represent NSC in a professional manner.
The Job Developer position will report directly to the REAP Program Manager and participate in department activities as necessary.
Job Responsibilities
- Engage in REAP job placement for refugees using independent decision-making and judgment and as part of NSC’s Refugee and Community Services team.
- Serve as a liaison between employers and clients, meet with provider agencies; discuss training needs, and encourage clients to get jobs.
- Arrange for clients to attend training sessions; schedule and/or coordinate client interviews with prospective employers; provide transportation and/or ensure client attends interview, assist clients in completing applications for employment; explain purpose and goal of the program to prospective employers; arrange for on-the-job training.
- Maintain and update database of clients and track progress through the employment seeking and interview process
- Produce reports and offer analysis for funders and/or as requested.
- Interview clients to determine education level and work history, determine clients’ employment requests, and conduct job preparation workshops and classes.
- Solicit appropriate clients to employers based upon matching skills, abilities, and knowledge to the specific employment opportunity.
- Assist clients to acclimate to new jobs; serve as a liaison between clients and employers to resolve concerns such as cultural differences, language, and related work experience.
- Identify and partner with groups and individuals to strengthen job development program.
- Collaborate with team members to promote the delivery of effective and comprehensive client services.
- Attends relevant workshops or join professional groups as necessary to maintain professional knowledge and licensure.
- Adheres to NSC’s confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
- Facilitates and attends relevant staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals.
- Completes special projects specific to the function of the department or as needed for the department as directed by Supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.
