Concerned Black Men seeks mentors for black boys

It is no secret that the city of Philadelphia is plagued by violence.  What’s even more heartbreaking is that 85% of homicide victims in Philadelphia are black males, being murdered by other black males.

Becoming a mentor is one of the most direct ways to have an immediate impact on the path of many of African American male youth.

CBM CARES Philadelphia, a program of Concerned Black Men, is seeking mentors for its mentoring initiative. CBM CARES Philadelphia works with young predominately African American males between 5th-8th  grade by providing them with positive male mentors. Mentors volunteer in both group mentoring settings which take place in the mentees’ schools once a week and one-to-one mentoring that takes place outside of the mentee’s school.  The goal is to reach these young men before they get to high school by providing guidance, support and encouragement that will supersede the negative influences around them.
