Forum discusses news coverage in African American communities

On Sunday, December 9th, the Center for Public Interest Journalism will hold a discussion of public-interest news coverage of African-American communities in Philadelphia at Mother Bethel AME Church, 419 S. 6th Street.

The conversation, which is the second in a new series aimed at improving and increasing local coverage of issues that affect diverse communities in Philadelphia, will be held from 1:30pm to 3pm, after the Sunday church service. It will be an opportunity for community members to talk directly with reporters and editors about the issues of importance to African-Americans in Philadelphia, as well as the types of stories and information they think would help build capacity to participate in civic life.

The CPIJ is a Temple University-based group whose mission is to increase the amount and quality of public affairs reporting in the Philadelphia region. Through conferences, trainings, and other professional development opportunities, CPIJ seeks to connect journalists in Philadelphia with resources for producing quality work on issues that affect public life.
