FACE: THE VACANCY GRANT OPPORTUNITY
2012 APPLICATION GUIDELINES
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority (PRA) announces a new grant-making effort through the Percent for Art Program, entitled the Fund for Art and Civic Engagement (FACE). This program, which is funded by contributions from private developers, is intended to facilitate innovative works of public art that engage communities and inspire individuals to think about their surroundings in new and exciting ways
FACE: the Vacancy
The theme for FACE for 2012 is FACE: the Vacancy. Artists are invited to propose original and innovative concepts for temporarily activating vacant land owned by the PRA. Applicants are encouraged to consider a spectrum of robust public art and culture-based projects, especially those with an integral component of community engagement. Selected proposals must reflect the core values of FACE, which include:
Accessing art and cultural engagement that is site-specific and meaningful to a community, high quality and free.
Defining “Communities” not as a location but as people.
Encouraging innovative approaches to art.
Enhancing neighborhood vitality and supporting community empowerment.
